Carvalho, Amélia

Amélia Carvalho is an Associate Professor at School of Technology and Management , Polytechnic of Porto and have a PhD in Management from the Faculty of Economics of Porto. I have developed the academic background in Accountability and Governance subject, with the main themes focus on accounting, financial reporting, transparency and governance practices applied to the business and the third sector. I hold a PhD in Management from the Faculty of Economics of Porto - FEP (2016), with a specialization in Accounting and Management Control. Additionally, I have a Master's degree in Accounting and Administration from the University of Minho- EEG (2007), and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Portucalense (1998). I have also been a certified accountant since 1998. In 2000, I began my teaching career at the Polytechnic School of Technology and Management of Porto (ESTG-P.PORTO), where I have been teaching business sciences in both the bachelor's and master's courses of management. Since 2020, I have been President of the Scientific-Technical Council of ESTG-P.PORTO, having previously served as a council member of this governing body. Throughout my career, I have collaborated as a lecturer and expert in several higher education institutions and also have develop some projects in the field of teaching and pedagogical practices, social innovation, and business development, with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. On the academic dimension, I have held various management positions over the years, having had the opportunity to contribute to the career development of many researchers and collaborators. I served as Vice-President of ESTG-P.PORTO for two years and have held management positions, such as Director and Vice-Director of Bachelor's and Master's degree courses. I hold the positions in the Bachelor's in Business Sciences and the Master's in Management of Third Sector Organizations. I have experience supervising Master's and PhD dissertations, which has allowed me to impact the scientific and technical development of several researchers. Currently, I supervise 3 PhD students and have completed supervision of 10 Master's students and also with 6 ongoing. I have also served on many public examination boards for Master's degrees and examination boards for specialist titles, both internally and externally. I have been a member of the Scientific Committee for several international and national conferences and congresses, as well on organizing committee for scientific events. Furthermore, I have been a co-chaired scientific events in the fields of management and the third sector, as well as chaired many parallel sessions. I have authored and co-authored several scientific articles and reviewed papers for several important journals and research network in the areas third sector. As an international researcher, I have also joined an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program (BIP). And since 2022, I`m an invited international expert to the scientific committee for a Study in the Third Sector of social action in Spain, a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030. I have extensive experience as a consultant I have always been involved in business management in local companies and nonprofit organizations, with responsibilities in finance and management control. I have served as a Public Manager in a Municipal Company in the Municipality of Felgueiras as an Executive Director. I have also been a member of the board of projects in regional and inter-regional organizations. I have transferred knowledge to the community through my involvement in regional social projects, specifically conducting impact assessments for third-sector organizations. As an integrated member of CIICESI my scientific activity has been distributed across different participations: 12 papers published in international scientific journals (Scopus or WoS); 11 papers published in international scientific journals; 5 book chapters; more than 20 published paper in proceedings of international conference and more than 21 paper presented at international scientific conferences.
