OPTIMOB-@I.PT: MODELING INTELLIGENT AND SUSTAINABLE SCENARIOS FOR OPTIMIZING THE DECARBONIZATION PROCESS OF URBAN MOBILITY IN PORTUGAL
Public transport plays a key role in any city and, with proper planning, can effectively contribute to improving urban mobility as well as the transition to decarbonization of road fleets. In recent years, various bus technologies have been introduced to replace diesel vehicles. However, more careful analysis is needed before the fleet selection problem can be optimally solved. In this context, this project proposes the development of an integrated decision support tool, based on optimization and simulation models, which addresses the problem of urban bus fleet selection. The proposed tool is distinguished by its innovative integration of optimization and simulation models, with the aim of minimizing costs, fleet CO₂ emissions, and CO₂ emissions associated with electricity or fuel production. Different types of urban buses will be considered: diesel, electric, hybrid, and hydrogen. The results obtained in this project will not be limited to the case study analyzed. The methodology and models developed can be adapted to optimize fleet selection in different cities and urban contexts. This means that the contributions of this project can be applied comprehensively, allowing for the incorporation of variables specific to each location and consideration.
