Ricardo Barbosa

Born in 1991, it was during my childhood that the interest in technology surfaced. With an accentuated emphasis on hardware, in 2008 I was a stagiaire on a computer repair company for six months. With higher goals in my mind, this proximity to informatics was reflected in my academic course when, in 2009, I joined the university and chose the Informatics Engineering program. During this time I was challenged with a broad of thematises that made difficult to decide my professional career. From frontend development to software engineering, it was only in my third year that I encountered Artificial Intelligence and was completely fascinated. This was decisive for my final project where I was able to explore different techniques, mainly natural language processing.
Following the conclusion of my licentiate degree I challenged myself and immediately joined the Masters Course in Informatics Engineering in 2014, with an accentuated focus on the thematic of “Information and Knowledge Systems”. Intrigued by the studies of human behaviour and personality I found a new paths for my work in Affective Computing. During this time I was a researcher in CIICESI involved in a project of application of affective computing to online social networks. The combination of those factors where determinant for my dissertation, the production of several scientific publications and the definition of two models. Short after, I re-joined CIICESI as researcher (where I continued the exploration of subjects related to Ambient Intelligence, Smart Cities, and Industry 4.0, and the publication of scientific works) and was later invited to be an assistant professor in ESTG-P.PORTO. It was at this time that my current challenge emerged, the doctoral program in Informatics at University of Minho.
