Ricardo Santos

Ricardo Santos is an associate professor in the Department of Informatics at the School of Management and Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and a researcher at the Center for Innovation and Research in Business Sciences and Information Systems (CIICESI). He holds a Ph.D. in Informatics - Artificial Intelligence, awarded by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro in 2010. Santos has also been the Director of the Department of Informatics since 2013 and Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Informatics Engineering from 2014 to 2018, both positions at the School of Management and Technology - Polytechnic Institute of Porto. His research career began in 2005 in the Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Advanced Computing for Innovation and Development (GECAD), where he participated in various projects, becoming an integrated member of CIICESI from 2009 onwards. From 2017 to 2021, he hold the position as the Director of CIICESI. His research interests include Decision-Support Systems, Ambient Intelligence, Multi-Agent Systems, Affective Computing, and Blockchain technology. Since 2010 and continuing to this day, he has been teaching at the School of Management and Technology and is responsible for a range of courses that cover emerging methods and techniques for software development, as well as the construction and operation of complex, modular, distributed and collaboratively developed software in demanding and short cycles, both at the undergraduate and master's levels. He has been involved in several funded research projects and has authored more than 50 scientific publications, 12 of which are in international journals and books. Over the years, he has participated in renowned international conferences as a program committee member and reviewer. He has also been a speaker at various conferences. In his industry involvement, he has worked as a technical advisor on several business projects related to process dematerialization and as a specialized consultant in diagnosing and conceptualizing Information Technology/Information Systems infrastructure.
